Prevention and Early Intervention Services - Building wellbeing and resilience

Mindsight Surrey CAMHS Prevention and Early Intervention Services - Building wellbeing and resilience

We aim to provide help and support to children and young people when they begin to feel unwell – to build wellbeing and resilience before their condition may worsen and they may risk having to attend A&E or be admitted to hospital.

Our partnership provides this support at all levels of need in a number of ways, including:

Guided self help and support materials

Through website based and telephone support, our service provides early help to children and young people.

Our partner, Xenzone offer BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) accredited online counselling, self-help and moderated peer support via the award-winning Kooth.com.

Young people across Surrey have access to this service, broadening the help available and enabling immediate and direct access to support. This is available to young people aged 10 upwards.

Primary mental health

Our Primary Mental Health Team (PMHT) supports children and young people when they begin to feel emotionally or mentally unwell. We help to build resilience and improve wellbeing to reduce the chances of problems becoming more serious.

The team is made up of people from different professional backgrounds who all have experience of working in children’s mental health. The team includes nurses, social workers, psychologists and therapists.

We support children, young people, parents, carers and other professionals such as teachers, identifying and preventing emerging or mild mental health issues like depression and anxiety. We do this through:

  • Consultations
  • Assessments & Brief Treatment
  • Training
  • Liaison with Professionals

Surrey Youth Support Service (YSS) lead the development and implementation of a No Labels Service to engage with young people who are leading chaotic lives and do not readily engage with services.

The YSS provide an integrated health, social care and education service which is able to deliver improved outcomes for young people whilst reducing the need for specialist mental health services.

The combination of integrated support to vulnerable adolescents and blend of skills  has delivered outstanding outcomes over the last three years for the young people in Surrey. This has meant that Surrey’s young people are now more likely to be successful participating in education, training and employment and less likely to be involved in the criminal justice system than young people anywhere else in the country.
