Learning Disability Awareness Week - a huge success

During Learning Disability Awareness Week events were held in hospitals across Surrey to raise awarness of learning disabilities

During Learning Disability Awareness Week (19-25 June) several events took place in hospitals across Surrey organised by our Acute Care Liaison Team.

Awareness was raised using information stands, flyers and event days based in hospital lecture theatres where the team invited hospital staff, student nurses, support workers, people from the wider community and many others to attend.

Organisations such as Mencap, The Young Ambassadors and Trust representatives gave presentations to raise awareness of learning disabilities, and some hospitals were lucky enough to have performances from ‘Surrey Choices Rhythmic Collision Dance Company’ – a drama group for people with learning disabilities.

Feedback was really positive, with people commenting:
"The event provided great insight into learning disabilities and impact on individuals, carers and family. Essential information for all healthcare professionals."
