Initiating and delivering clinical research

We are committed to improving the service we provide to people who use our services, their families, friends and carers. Research plays a vital role in achieving this goal. We aim to ensure faster and easier clinical research, increase the number of people who participate, and enhance the attractiveness of the UK as a host for commercially sponsored research.

Since April 2014, we have been publishing information quarterly about the clinical trials we are involved in. This information is available on the Government’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) website.  The NIHR has introduced performance benchmarks for the time taken to initiate clinical trials, and for the delivery of trials to time and target.

Find out more about the Government’s incentives for providers of NHS services to improve their research programmes.
