Service Description

On Fenby Ward we believe people are entitled to high quality care in an environment that is safe, therapeutic and offers individual choice. Our highly
experienced team provides intensive care to individuals whose mental health status requires them to be treated within a secure environment.

Who Uses this Service?


We specialise in assessing and treating people who have severe or enduring mental health problems within an intensive care setting with
a profile of:

  • Detained status under the Mental Health Act (1983)
  • Adults between the age of 18 - 65, exceptionally patients over 65 will be considered
  • Male and female
  • Require assessment and treatment within a secure environment
  • Planned admissions for intensive therapeutic interventions

 

Assessment and Consultation

On Fenby Ward we offer a range of multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment plans to suit individual recovery needs. Our aim is to assess, treat and stabilise individuals and to facilitate a smooth discharge to the most appropriate environment as quickly and safely as possible.

In discussion with individuals we draw up care plans to meet specific health and social care needs. Referrers and carers are also invited to meet our care team to discuss the goals of admission, treatment interventions and the management of any possible risks.We work closely with everyone involved in an individual’s care to ensure good communications are maintained at all times.

This well presented, low stimulus unit has 11 individual bedrooms and offers the following
facilities:

  • Spacious single bedrooms with en-suite facilities
  • Therapy and activity rooms
  • Large, accessible garden with seating areas
  • Dining room and 24 hour beverage bar
  • Spacious lounges, TV room and relaxation areas
  • Three family visiting rooms
  • Interview rooms
  • Laundry facilities
  • Section 136 Suite

 

The service is provided within the grounds of Epsom General Hospital and is co-located with our therapy suite and acute mental health services. Patients have supervised access to the hospital gardens and local community facilities where appropriate.

 

Referrals

We welcome referrals from health and social care professionals from across England.We work in partnership with the local team from the point of assessment to discharge. We aim to provide assessment and organise admission within 48 hours wherever possible.
