Systemic Family Therapy

Different cultures and different groups of individuals have very different notions of what ‘family’ means. Family Therapists work in ways that acknowledge the contexts of people’s families and other relationships, sharing and respecting individuals’ different perspectives, beliefs, views and stories and exploring possible ways forward.

The Family Therapy Service works with couples and/or families, including significantly involved members who may not live together, where a family member has a mental health diagnosis such as:

  • Severe recurrent depression or anxiety with self-harm or other complex mental health issues
  • Bi-polar affective disorder
  • Psychosis
  • Complex personality disorder
  • Addiction (e.g. alcoholism, drug misuse)
  • Eating disorders

and are experiencing major relationship difficulties in couple, family or other relationship contexts.
