Our Inspirational Staff

Sam Gooniah – Sector Manager North West, Older People

“I have been afforded great opportunities to develop as a nurse working with people in a mental health crisis and their carers in the community or on the wards. It has been a great and enriching experience working in the Crisis House, Crisis Helpline, Home Treatment Teams, mental health wards and in the acute hospitals in Surrey. The Trust has been very supportive of my professional development, enabling me to undertake further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, psychosocial interventions and being an independent non-medical prescriber. I have embraced the chance to combine my clinical nursing experience with a variety of managerial posts such as team leader, ward manager, modern matron and service manager.“

Vusisizwe Ndlovu – Mental Health Practitioner

Vusiszwe joined Surrey and Borders as a Bank Health Care Assistant during his time as a Surrey University student. Once Vusiszwe graduated in 2013 he joined the Trust as a Staff Nurse in the Abraham Cowley Unit. Two years later Vusiszwe took a Band 6 development role with the Home Treatment Team and has recently started working in a new role within Criminal Justice.

“Surrey and Borders is very supportive of development and there are lots of opportunities to learn and grow. I am very happy at the Trust.“

India Ray – Recovery College Senior Clinician

India joined our Trust as a Band 5 Staff Nurse three years ago after working shifts with us through NHS Professionals as a student nurse. Whilst working as a Staff Nurse India was seconded two days a week to work in Electroconvulsive Therapy. This gave India an opportunity to gain more experience in an area of interest to her. India went on to complete a Level 3 diploma and is now starting a new role as a Band 6 Senior Recovery Clinician at the Recovery College.

“Surrey and Borders offers a supportive environment. My preceptor was fantastic and helpful. I was given lots of responsibility in the role. The ward is busy but my manager is brilliant, caring for the staff and encouraging us to develop.”
