Clinical Education Team

The Clinical Education Team contributes to the Trust’s vision and upholds its values through the provision of effective clinical education and quality learning environments. We support our existing and future staff to develop the right behaviours, skills and competencies to provide compassionate, person-centred, evidence-based, high-quality care. The team is responsible for supporting Nurse Education, Nurse Associate Apprenticeships, AHP students, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and those training to become Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

Care Certificate

At SABP, the Care Certificate is a mandated programme for all Band 2-4 Support Workers who have joined the Trust since 1 January 2020. Any staff member who joins the Trust without the Care Certificate will be expected to complete it, unless you can provide evidence of another relevant qualification.

Relevant Qualifications

Equivalent knowledge needs to be demonstrated by an accredited Health and Social Care qualification such as the Care Certificate from another employer or work-based Level 2 or 3 Certificate/Diploma achieved via an apprenticeship after 2017.

Higher level Diplomas, for example, Level 5 Foundation Degree Health and Social Care in Practice will be accepted.

We will require a copy of your qualification transcript, so that we can map to see how your qualification matches the Care Certificate criteria.

Non-Relevant Qualifications

Health and Social Care qualifications at A-Level (Level 3) and GCSE (Level 2) programmes studied in an academic environment such as school, college or online. These are not sufficiently work-based and therefore cannot give you an exemption to the Care Certificate as the Care Certificate is a work-based induction programme.

A Psychology Degree does not exempt you from completing the Care Certificate, as this course is aimed at the role of being a Health Care Support Worker, and not a psychologist.

Higher unrelated field qualifications do not exempt you from completing the Care Certificate. The Care Certificate is designed for those working as Health Care Assistants and Support Workers and will provide you with the necessary training for your role.

The 15 Standards of the Care Certificate are set by Skills for Health, Skills for Care and Health Education England as a result of the Cavendish Review.

Standards:

  1. Understanding Your Role
  2. Your Personal Development Care Certificate Logo.png
  3. Duty of Care
  4. Equality and Diversity
  5. Working in a Person-Centred Way
  6. Communication
  7. Privacy and Dignity
  8. Fluids and Nutrition
  9. Awareness of Mental Health, Dementia and Learning Disability
  10. Safeguarding Adults
  11. Safeguarding Children
  12. Basic Life Support
  13. Health and Safety
  14. Handling Information
  15. Infection Prevention and Control

Support will be given within Clinical environments by members of the Clinical Education Team and by your Line Manager and Assessor.
