Our team work with GP practices and acute hospitals to enhance their knowledge around learning disabilities to improve their experiences of health services and ensure equal access.

It’s important that where possible, health services make reasonable adjustments to ensure that someone with a learning disability has the same access as everyone else.

A reasonable adjustment could be:

  • Simplifying language
  • Arranging appointments for a quieter time of day
  • Sending easy read letters with less complex text
  • Making home visits

The liaison service has worked closely with colleagues from a range of disciplines such as speech and language, psychology and behaviour support to produce a set of videos that explain how health services can help improve access for people with a learning disability.
