What is SPADe?

The aim of this study is to find out if a group programme (SPADe) can help people to stabilise their drinking and support them with changing the way they live.

This is a randomised control trial, which means half of participants will be randomly selected to receive the group programme in addition to their usual treatment, and the other half will continue their usual care without the group programme.

Who can take part?

People dependent on alcohol who are seeking support to stop drinking.

What is involved?

You will be asked to complete a research assessment which involves answering questions about your current drinking habits and general wellbeing. The study lasts for 12 months and the questions you answer at the start will be repeated at three, six and 12 months.

It’s possible you will also be invited to take part in an interview to give feedback on your experiences of the group programme.

Are there any incentives to taking part?

Following completion of each assessment (four in total) you will receive a £10 shopping voucher.
