What is the study about?
MORE-KARE is a phase III double-blind, randomised controlled, multi-site trial running across the UK to investigate the effects of ketamine in combination with psychological therapy on relapse rates in severe alcohol use disorder.
Who can take part?
We are recruiting participants over the age of 18, male and female, who meet the criteria for severe alcohol use disorder and are currently abstinent or reducing their drinking.
Other inclusion/exclusion criteria: no other psychiatric illness, low suicide risk, no current recreational drug use.
What is involved?
The trial involves giving a low dose intravenous infusion of the drug ketamine over 40 minutes once a week for three weeks alongside seven sessions of a talking therapy (KARE therapy).
This is a 6-month trial during which participants are requested to visit us at R&D, Two Bridges, 10 times (we can provide transport by taxi/reimburse travel costs as well as issue vouchers when completing the study).
