Visiting people staying in our inpatient wards and care homes

Visiting people in our inpatient wards and care homes plays an important role in supporting their mental health and wellbeing. This page provides key visiting information you may find helpful, but if you have any specific questions, please ask a member of staff.

There may be exceptional circumstances when visiting could pose a risk to the health, safety, or welfare of people using the service, our staff, or others. In these circumstances, we will do all we can to provide alternative arrangements. We will do this together with the person using our service and their family, friends, or advocates, where appropriate. We will assess any restrictions regularly and when the circumstances change, we will remove them as soon as possible, and keep visitors informed of the changes.

Visiting our inpatient services

Our adult inpatient services provide a place of safety where specialist teams can offer the care that best meets the needs of each person.

Children and young people under the age of 18 are not allowed onto the main ward area. If you wish to arrange for children to visit, please speak to a member of staff so they can book the family room for you.

Visiting our care homes and inpatient services for people with learning disabilities

For people with learning disabilities, we provide residential care homes and residential care homes with nursing. We also provide an inpatient service for people with learning disabilities who are in a mental health crisis, and this service is called The Deacon Unit.

We offer a flexible approach for families or friends visiting someone who is living in one of our care homes or staying at The Deacon Unit. Whilst allowing flexibility around visiting, we do have processes in place and carry out risk assessments when necessary to ensure the safety and safeguarding of the people we care for and for those visiting. Our staff are familiar with the families and friends of those living in our residential care homes and residential care homes with nursing.

Whether or not children are permitted is risk assessed on an individual basis according to the home being visited and whether this would be appropriate or not. Should you wish to bring a child and they are not already known to us as a member of family or a friend, then you are advised to inform us of this request in advance.

Visiting days are Monday to Sunday. Free parking is available for visitors on site.
