After an extensive public survey, the much-anticipated name for our new Northwest Mental Health Inpatient Service and its four wards on St. Peter’s Hospital campus in Chertsey has been announced.

Following the distribution of a public survey in August, which encouraged participants to select their preferred names from a shortlist of options, the response was overwhelming with over 560 votes. The resounding choice for the building’s name emerged as 'Silverwood'.

For the four wards, the winning selection was Polaris, Orion, Lyra, and Vega, drawing inspiration from stars and constellations known for their brightness, strength, and uniqueness. This celestial theme was a wildcard suggestion, originating from an insightful individual who believed it resonated perfectly with the new service.

Currently under construction, Silverwood is scheduled to open its doors in autumn 2024. This state-of-the-art building will comprise four new wards with a total of 64 single en suite bedrooms prioritising privacy and dignity for individuals using our services.

The commitment to well-being extends outdoors, as each ward will have its own dedicated garden space and there will be a tranquil woodland area, ideal for supervised walks. The new service will feature a range of spaces tailored to meet people’s clinical needs too, including activity areas, therapy rooms, and serene sensory spaces.

As anticipation continues to build, we very much look forward to Silverwood opening next year.
