Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service

The Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion team offers expert assessment of people who are detained in custody and thought to have mental health problems. They provide appropriate interventions to those who need support, including:

  • giving written or verbal reports to courts or the Police
  • recommending that a detainee is admitted to hospital
  • instigating formal Mental Health Act assessments
  • confirming if someone in custody has a learning disability

The team undertake Postitive Case Identification (i.e. they assess all detainees as a matter of course) and also accept referrals from colleagues in Criminal Justice settings.
