Our five-year carers strategy (June 2026 to June 2031) has been developed in partnership with carers of people who use our services, local support organisations, local authorities, neighbouring NHS trusts and SABP staff.
We have maintained our two-star Triangle of Care accreditation since 2016. Awarded by Carers Trust, this is the highest level of accreditation available to a mental health trust.
The Triangle of Care brings together carers, people who use our services and health professionals to work in partnership. It promotes safety, recovery and wellbeing by recognising and supporting the important role carers play.
Our key priorities
Our strategy focuses on seven key priorities, based on the Triangle of Care standards and our commitment to supporting staff who have caring responsibilities.
- Identification – Carers and the important role they play are recognised at first contact, or as soon as possible afterwards.
- Training – Staff are carer-aware and receive training to help them work effectively with carers.
- Confidentiality and information sharing – No one gets better on their own. Clear policies and practices support appropriate information sharing while respecting confidentiality.
- Roles and responsibilities – Dedicated roles are in place to support carers across our services.
- Introduction to services – Carers receive information about services, staff and support available throughout the care journey.
- Support – A range of support services is available to carers.
- Staff carers – SABP is committed to being a carer-friendly employer.
