Local dignitaries gathered this week to mark the latest milestone in the construction of Silverwood in Chertsey, our new state of the art inpatient mental health service.

Dr Ben Spencer, MP for Runnymede and Weybridge, and Councillor Shannon Saise-Marshall, the Mayor of Runnymede, both attended the ‘watertight’ ceremony along with our Trust’s Chief Executive, Graham Wareham.

The ceremony marks the point at which the building is watertight and ready for the next phase of development. Guests had the opportunity to tour the interior of the building and see the ‘benchmark rooms’ that showcase the meticulous design and specifications of the new service. These rooms undergo detailed testing to make sure they meet the Trust’s standards before the remaining rooms are completed.

Silverwood will provide 64 beds across four wards in a modern and therapeutic environment, all with single ensuite bedrooms to provide greater privacy and dignity for people using its services. Each ward will have a dedicated garden and there will be a woodland area for supervised walks. There will also be a variety of dedicated spaces tailored to the clinical needs of the service, including activity, therapy, and sensory-type calm rooms.

Speaking at the event Chief Executive, Graham Wareham said: The ambition to establish a state-of-the-art mental health inpatient service on this site has been a cornerstone of our Trust's strategic vision. Today, we can really start to see what Silverwood is going to look like – on the inside and the out. It really is impressive."
