We’re inviting everyone who has used our mental health services, their families and carers, our colleagues and anyone with an interest in mental health to help us name the building and four wards for our new Northwest Mental Health Inpatient Service in Chertsey. The building is currently under construction on the former Abraham Cowley Unit site, St. Peter’s Hospital campus and is due to open in autumn 2024.

In May, we carried out an initial survey asking people to choose their favourite themes for the wards and the building names. Over 140 people took part, and the winning theme was a mix of bird and flower names. There was also a popular suggestion to use stars and constellations representing positivity, happiness, and uniqueness. The survey also showed that people want the ward names to be related to the name of the building itself.

We have now compiled a shortlist of names based on the survey results. Voting is open until 31 August 2023, and we’ll announce the winning names later in the year.
