Service Description
The Surrey Liaison and Diversion Service aim to provide early intervention for vulnerable people as they come into contact with the criminal justice system; whether in police custody, crown court, magistrates court, or prison.
Within our team we have a range of practitioners who are able to assess within police custody, court and prison (Reconnect Service) and also in the community. We have Assertive Outreach and Lived Experience Peer Support Teams who are able to provide follow-on support in the community.
The Surrey Liaison and Diversion Service provides a prompt response to concerns raised by the police, probation service, youth offending/justice teams, court or prison staff, and provides critical information to decision-makers in the justice system, in real-time, when it comes to charging and sentencing vulnerable people to ensure that all services understand the vulnerabilities a person has together with the support in place or needed.
Referral Criteria
The Surrey Liaison and Diversion Service accept referrals for any person who has been in recent contact with the criminal justice system over the age of 10 years from Police, Probation Service, Youth Offending Teams, Court Teams, Prison Teams, other L&D services, Solicitors, Appropriate Adults, Mental Health Services, Substance and Alcohol Misuse Services, and self-referrals from individuals or their families, friends or carers.
We appreciate that women, men and children can have differing needs based on life experience and trauma, and we pride ourselves in providing a person-centred approach. We will assess, and identify vulnerabilities and support needs. We will then establish a mutually agreed support plan.
