Mental health support in Surrey and NE Hampshire

Help for anxiety, depression and crisis

We're here to support your mental health and emotional well-being, whether you are a child, young person or adult. The guidance below explains how to access our range of mental health services across NE Hampshire and Surrey, including Guildford, Woking, Redhill, Epsom and beyond.

Crisis support

Our Crisis support services are here for you if you are experiencing a mental health crisis or emotional distress. Mental health professionals will take time to understand how you are feeling and provide you with mental health guidance and support.

  • Our Mental Health Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is free to call and is available to anyone living in Surrey or North East Hampshire, whether you need urgent mental health support for yourself, or you're worried about someone else.
  • You can also visit one of our five Safe Havens, open every evening, including weekends and bank holidays. These are welcoming spaces where adults (18+) can talk to mental health professionals and peer support workers in a supportive environment. You can drop in without an appointment, or join virtually if you prefer.

Mental health support without a referral

You don't need a GP referral to get help. We offer a range of NHS mental health services that you can access directly, whether you're feeling low, anxious, or just need extra support:

  • Mind Matters Surrey, our talking therapies service, can help you to feel better if you are feeling low, anxious or stressed. Accredited therapists offer individual therapies, and guided self-help online and group courses. It is available to anyone aged 17+ registered with a GP in Surrey.
  • Recovery College offers a range of courses to help people better understand and manage their mental health needs, recover and stay well. They are delivered by specially trained Recovery Coaches, who have experience of mental or physical ill health, alongside mental health professionals and are available to adults living in Surrey or North East Hampshire.
  • Service User Network (SUN) offers regular peer support groups for people with complex emotional needs or personality disorders. These groups provide a safe space to share and get support from both trained professionals and people with lived experience.  They are available to adults living in Surrey and North East Hampshire.

Mental health support through your GP

Your GP can help you access our primary care mental health services, which offer early support for a wide range of mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and complex emotional needs. These services work closely with your GP to understand your situation and provide tailored mental health care in your community. They aim to help you recover and stay well, and prevent problems from becoming more serious.

  • In Surrey Heath, Farnham, or North East Hampshire, the service is known as Mental Health Integrated Community Service (MHICS).
  • In other parts of Surrey, the same service is known as GP Integrated Mental Health Service (GPimhs).

Both of these services provide:

  • Mental health advice and support close to home
  • Holistic, person-centred care
  • Early intervention for a range of mental health conditions

Ask your GP about a referral to MHICS or GPimhs.
