A treatment programme for high-risk drinkers in Surrey is now available for people who are showing signs of higher-risk drinking and seeking to reduce their intake.

The treatment programme is called Extended Brief Interventions (EBI) and offers up to six 30 minute sessions with an alcohol specialist from Surrey and Borders Partnership. These sessions use proven techniques to help people explore ways to reduce their drinking and prevent problems from escalating.

Figures show that around 85% of those who have completed treatment found it to be helpful to them in taking steps to successfully cut back on their drinking.

The programme has been well received by those who have accessed this early support and has now received a year’s funding to deliver over 120 sessions per month.

You can check your own drinking levels by completing the DrinkCoach Alcohol Test drinkcoach.org.uk/alcohol-test - an anonymous online survey to help you spot the signs of problem drinking. If the survey highlights drinking at risky levels, you will be advised to contact i-access for further support.

If you’re worried about your drinking you can refer yourself to iaccess directly by calling 0300 222 5932 during normal office hours or by searching ‘Getting Help’ at www.surreydrugandalcohol.com
