This Stress Awareness Day (Wednesday 5 November) our trust is highlighting the benefits of couples therapy for people in relationships living with depression.
The specialist psychological support is provided by Mind Matters Surrey, our trust’s talking therapies service. Designed for couples where one or both partners are living with the symptoms of depression, Couples Therapy for Depression (CTfD) helps to both improve people’s mental health and strengthen relationships.
The therapy is free and confidential and consists of weekly 50-minute sessions with a specially trained therapist. It provides practical tools to improve emotional connection, communication, and relationship wellbeing.
Jane Ryder, Counsellor at Mind Matters Surrey, said: “We know that depression can be very challenging for couples to navigate and can cause stress for both people. CTfD is confidential, compassionate and tailored to each couple we see.
“The therapy focuses on the couple working together to make positive changes in communication, alleviate symptoms of depression and help each member of the couple feel better about themselves and the relationship.
“Evidence shows us that CTfD is very effective, and it offers practical tools and guidance to help improve wellbeing, manage emotions and develop effective communication strategies to move forward together in partnership.”
People aged 17 and over registered with a Surrey GP can sign up for the therapy without the need for a professional referral.
