Welcome to Kingscroft, a registered care home with nursing for up to seven men and women with learning disabilities and associated physical and health needs. Kingscroft provides families and carers with a well-earned break and gives individuals with learning disabilities a chance to spend some time away from home, meet others, have fun, or simply relax.

Our approach is to create a home-from-home atmosphere, following each person’s usual daily routine during their stay. For example, we support people to attend their day care centre or other external activities if that’s part of their usual schedule. If their day is free, we offer a range of activities and spend time with them at Kingscroft.

The care we provide is person-centred, and each person has their own care plan, which includes details about their likes, dislikes, and preferences for support.

We also like to involve people who use our services, along with their families, in shaping what we do. We gather feedback through questionnaires and interviews and run regular family and carer support groups with an independent advocate. Additionally, we hold social events for families and carers at least every three months.

Kingscroft has seven bedrooms, each with a comfortable bed, TV, DVD player, sink, and storage (wardrobes and/or drawers). Two of the rooms are equipped with hoist tracking. Our communal areas include a main lounge and dining area, which is open-plan and ideal for eating, listening to music, watching TV, or joining activities. There’s also a smaller, quieter lounge and a sensory room for those who want some calm, private time.

Meals and drinks are prepared in our well-equipped kitchen, and we are experienced in catering for different dietary and health needs. Kingscroft also has two large bathrooms with jacuzzi baths and ceiling tracking, as well as commodes, shower beds, and hoists to support bathing.

The team at Kingscroft is highly experienced in supporting people with learning disabilities, with staff on duty 24 hours a day. During the day, we have three to four staff members to cater to people’s needs, and at night we have two waking staff to assist with overnight support. All staff members receive regular training in health care, including administering medication, PEG feeding, catheter care, stoma care, and epilepsy support. They are also trained to work with people who may have complex or challenging behaviour.

Our team includes a housekeeper and dedicated admin support, and all staff have current DBS checks (formerly CRB). Every bedroom is individually decorated with a colour theme and matching soft furnishings, and we always try to accommodate guests' preferences if they have a favourite room.

Kingscroft’s outdoor space includes a patio area with seating and tables, and weather permitting, we enjoy meals outside. The garden also features seats, loungers, and a trampoline for residents to use during their stay.

What to expect at Kingscroft

Person-centred care

Our team provides personalised, caring support tailored to each person’s needs. Each person using our service has a care plan that details their likes, dislikes, and how they prefer to be helped. We involve both people and their families in our service, using feedback through questionnaires, interviews, and regular support groups led by an independent advocate. We also host social events for families and carers every three months to build connections and provide support.

Comfortable, accessible accommodation

Kingscroft has seven bedrooms, each with a comfy bed, TV, DVD player, sink, and storage for belongings. Six rooms include hoist tracking for added support. Each room is decorated in a unique colour theme, and we try to accommodate personal preferences when people who use our services have a favourite room.

Engaging communal spaces

Our open-plan main lounge and dining area is a social space where people can eat, listen to music, watch TV, or join in activities with other people staying with us. There’s also a quieter lounge with a tropical fish tank and a sensory room for anyone who wants some calm, private time. Outside, our spacious patio and garden area features outdoor seating, loungers, and even a trampoline for relaxation and fun in good weather.

Nutritious meals and dietary support

Meals and drinks are prepared in our well-equipped kitchen. We cater for various dietary and health needs, making sure everyone can enjoy nutritious food that suits them.

Skilled and caring staff

Kingscroft’s experienced team is here 24 hours a day, including three to four staff members during the day and two waking staff overnight. Staff are trained in health care needs such as medication, PEG feeding, catheter care, and epilepsy support, and they are skilled in helping people with challenging behaviour. Our team also includes a housekeeper and dedicated admin support.

Safe and accessible facilities

Kingscroft has two large bathrooms, one with a jacuzzi bath and ceiling tracking, and the other with a walk-in shower, as well as commodes, shower beds, shower chairs, and hoists to assist with bathing and hygiene needs.

Large outdoor area

Our outdoor space includes a patio with seating and tables. Weather permitting, we often enjoy meals outside, allowing people to take in the fresh air and relax in a peaceful setting.

How to make a referral

Kingscroft accepts referrals from family members or carers, the individual themselves and GPs, although most come via care managers at the local authority.

The care manager contacts Kingscroft to discuss initial arrangements and to ensure that our service is suitable for the person they're referring. Once that is agreed, Kingscroft's manager then visits the individual and their family/carers at home to meet everyone and agree their visits. We also encourage people who are interested in using our services to come and visit us to have a look around and get to know us.

Everyone who stays at Kingscroft is assigned a key worker who makes sure we know everything we need to before the person comes stay.

We introduce people to the service at their own pace. For example, we like to settle people in with introductory tea visits where they can come along and get their bearings before they spend the night.
