What is Action Learning and what will it involve?

We are looking for people with a solid foundation knowledge of and a keen interest in trauma-informed approaches, who would like support in using/implementing these, to join action learning sets.

Action Learning Sets consist of 5-6 people who collaborate over a 4-month period to address specific challenges related to trauma-informed approaches. Each session is facilitated by a trained member of our team. Action Learning is an effective method to help participants think through complex issues, enabling deeper and broader reflection, leading to better and quicker decision-making.

At the beginning of each meeting, participants present a real issue they are facing in implementing a trauma-informed approach in their workplace. The group collectively decides which challenge to focus on for that session. Through a series of open questions, the group assists the presenter in exploring the problem, offering new insights, and developing an action plan.

By the end of the 4 months, every participant will have had the chance to present at least once. A facilitator will guide you throughout the journey, and no prior experience is required. All discussions within the set are confidential.

Who is eligible to attend?

We welcome applications from staff working in organisations within Surrey Heartlands ICS, Frimley South ICS, Surrey Police, and NE Hampshire Police.

See what others have to say after attending Action Learning Sets:

β€œI feel the action learning sets are a great approach to support me with work issues. It provided a protected space to slow down and think about possibilities with colleagues, it felt a mutually supportive environment where we were all keen to help one another.”

β€œIt has helped support me as I transitioned from one role to another role. The new role comes with far more responsibility and includes building a new service so embedding a TI way of working is timely. It also helped me see how ALS can be used to explore another persons issue.”
