What is the study about?

The study is part of the Blood Biomarker Challenge and aims to evaluate the accuracy of blood-based ‘biomarker’ tests for diagnosing dementia, as well as their effectiveness in diverse populations and their cost-effectiveness for the NHS.

We are seeking to recruit 200 people to take part in this study at SABP as part of a nationwide drive to recruit more than 3,100 participants from across the UK.

Who can take part?

People aged 45 and over, and who have been or are referable with cognitive or behavioural symptoms and/or diagnosed with a cognition related disorder. People with a lack of venous access (difficulty accessing veins) are unable to take part in this study.

What is involved?

Participants will be required to provide a single, 20ml blood sample, along with information on their medical history. Their blood will be analysed for blood for protein levels and genetic information, linking to clinical data. This will help determine whether results need to be interpreted differently in people from different ethnic backgrounds or with other health conditions.

We will ask participants to complete a questionnaire about their views on dementia diagnosis and the potential role of blood tests in care.
