Around 200,000 adults in Surrey drink more than the recommended 14 units of alcohol per week. Are you one of them?
To coincide with Alcohol Awareness Week (7-16 July), we are launching a new AlcoholWise website – www.AlcoholWise.org.uk – which offers:
- The AlcoholWise test - an anonymous, online test that helps participants understand their drinking patterns and whether they should seek further support based on their alcohol intake
- Information on units and recommended limits
- Tips on how and why to cut down on your drinking
- Sources of help and information, including for family members, friends or carers
The AlcoholWise test is available to all Surrey residents aged 18+. It asks a short set of questions about how often a person drinks and the impact drinking alcohol has on their lives. According to a person’s answers, the test may recommend they would benefit from support from AlcoholWise.
People can refer themselves to AlcoholWise, which offers six telephone sessions from a specialist support worker. These sessions will explore the person’s goals for their alcohol intake, what may trigger them to drink alcohol, along with strategies to manage cravings.
If a person’s alcohol intake is very high, they may be advised by the drink test to self refer to another alcohol service provided by i-access, our substance misuse service.
When it comes to alcohol, awareness starts with knowledge. This Alcohol Awareness Week, find out more about your alcohol consumption and wellbeing by visiting www.AlcoholWise.org.uk
