Larkfield House – Nursing care in a quiet countryside setting
Larkfield House is a purpose-built nursing care home in Charlwood, Surrey. We support six adults with learning disabilities and autism in a calm, rural environment.
Our experienced team of learning disability nurses and support staff work closely with each person to provide safe, personalised care and a comfortable home.
Welcome to Larkfield, a registered care home with nursing for six men and women with learning disabilities and autism. Situated in a serene rural setting, Larkfield offers a peaceful environment. The home has been fully adapted to be accessible, with large bathrooms and spacious, comfortable lounges. It also features a state-of-the-art sensory room, which provides a therapeutic experience by engaging the senses of the people we support. Larkfield boasts a large garden where people can enjoy time in nature with family, carers, advocates, and our staff team. Our dedicated and compassionate team works together to empower the people we support, encouraging them to live their lives to the fullest.
We support six individuals with learning disabilities—three females and three males—each with additional diagnoses alongside their learning disability. For example, we have one gentleman who loves trains, so his outings are centred around visiting train stations and other places where he can explore his interests further.
The people I’ve met here, like Metairie, Mark, Jeremy, Derek, and others, live fulfilling lives supported by the incredible care they receive. When I see the lifestyle and support they have here, I think to myself, “If it were my mum or my son, I’d be more than happy for them to come here.” The team here goes above and beyond to ensure our residents are happy, safe, and have enriching experiences.
Our doors are always open. Family members are welcome to visit, and we have strong relationships with relatives. They’re welcome to call and arrange visits whenever they’d like, and we support them with that.
We offer a variety of activities, like horse riding, gardening, baking, and even themed pizza evenings. For example, this evening we’re making pizzas with the people we support. We also have pampering sessions with hand massages, head massages, and foot massages, making the most of what we have here so residents can access different experiences. Residents are welcome to enjoy the garden year-round—there are no restrictions, so everyone can spend time outdoors whenever they wish. As the weather warms up, many enjoy having their meals outside.
I love gardening and encourage some of our residents, like Mark, to join in. Mark enjoys helping in the garden, especially with watering plants. Derek loves movies, so we sometimes turn the lounge into a mini cinema for him and watch films together.
For me, supporting people here means helping them live independently and promoting their dignity and well-being. Every day is a learning experience, with new challenges and something different to discover. The people we look after are fantastic, each with unique personalities that keep me inspired. There’s a genuine sense of joy here, and laughter is shared as we all work together to support each other.
We respect one another and put the people we support at the centre of everything we do. They can always trust that they are our priority.
